A Ritual for moving into the energy of 2023 – New Year/ A coming New Moon/ Same Beautiful YOU

How are you feeling about this new year?  How do the numbers resonate for you?

Do you have plans?  Resolutions?  Goals?  Ideas? Creations? Releases? Goodbyes? Letting goes……..

At the beginning of every year I love to dig deep into my truth and every year feels significantly more truthful than the last.

This 2023 year I opted for moving a little more quietly into the new year.  Staying away from social media, resting at home, working some.  I got quiet until I felt that familiar inner stirring that told me it was time to begin my process for what is coming.  Let’s face it – we don’t know exactly what is coming but when we put out vibrations – they act like a magnet – attracting and repelling.

This process, if you would care to try, requires quiet, exploratory questioning, tea and/or coffee, incense and or a smudge stick if you like and a comfortable place to sit – anywhere that feels good to you.  I am sitting in one of my favourite places to create from, I know this place well and whenever I give myself permission to create in this place, I feel a goldenness arising.

Ensuring we set ourselves up in a supportive way can go along way in ensuring we get the most out of any planning – let alone a plan for a whole year, however loosely.  We have all heard that February is a time when resolutions come undone – so maybe instead of using words like ‘New Years Resolutions’ or ‘2023 Goal Setting’ (which I may or may not have used many times in the past – hehehehe – we live and learn) which can be loaded and contain a tonne of pressure – try something like Creating or Exploring my 2023 or My Evolving 2023 Resolve or even 2023 the year of ————— – you fill in the blank – no rules – not even just one word – lots of words or none at all.  Let this be fun, light, freeing and favourable for you.

Begin with quiet and comfort – be somewhere where you are uninterrupted for a good amount of time and no pressure to have this ‘done or completed’ by a certain time – this process can definitely take longer to unravel than 1/2 an hour.  Be comfortable and steady in your seat – like a yoga posture.  Feel your body relax down into support and breath for a time until you feel the urge to explore.  Ahhhh.  Let the exploring be a time for gentle questioning, not holding to tightly or lightly – letting life, awareness, feelings, sensations, enquiries come and go with ease.

Once you are set up with your favourite writing/exploring tools – mine are always blank sheets of paper (no lines) and a lead pencil – call me old fashioned!  (Most of you will have seen this over this years when I come to class with my book of lesson plans!).

Sit and ask yourself these and other questions and write whatever comes through.  Let it flow.  Rant, rave, write, draw and ponder.  Let whatever comes be a flowing stream of consciousness.  Reassure yourself that there is no right or wrong way of doing this life or this process and that this is a perfect exploratory moment because you felt it call you.  Release doubt and inhibition and on the page/paper be truthfully authentically you.  You are the only one who is reading it.  You could even print these questions out and answer them on your own printed version.  Answer some or all of the following questions:

What worked really well for you in 2022? Knowingly or unknowingly as part of a grand life plan or not.  What good feelings arise as you ponder this – write them down? (Noticing how you feel as you write is an important part of the process).

What didn’t work quite so well for you in 2022? Is there a helpful lesson here?  Is there something here to let go of and release? What feelings arise as you acknowledge this?

What came into your life in 2022 without you exerting any effort? What happened almost of it’s own accord – like the universe had plans of it’s own………..  This could be a person – a new friendship, a new hobby, a new job, a new awareness – it – whatever it is came through in a flowing way – without an effort – it just happened.  How do you feel when you consider how this new thing came in?

What did 2022 teach you?  The good, the tough, the main points.

A moment of pause here – gratitude in reflection of what was before moving on – you might even enjoy jumping on your mat, your trampoline, going for a walk, a swim, smudge – let the fullness of 2022 stream in, around and through you as you fully embody walking/stepping/jumping/dancing into a new phase of your life.

Now get quiet and comfy again.  Breath.  Go back to that comfy place if it feels appropriate or you might decide to go somewhere new.

What is 2023 looking/feeling like to you, at this moment?

What would you like to invite more of into 2023?

What do you want less of in 2023?

If there was a way of living 2023 that was guaranteed to bring you true happiness what would that look like?  Paint and/or write with great expression – you living your best life in 2023.   Let go of right or wrong and let the life that is beckoning flow in, around and through you

When you are done, look, really look at what you have created, write down the feelings that this image (whether it is words or an image) evokes in you and let these words simmer inside you.  Make tweaks, adjustments as you feel to.

Simply pare it down.  Encapsulate that which has meaning for you in your life right now.  Write your intention for 2023.  What feelings, creations, openings, beginnings are you inviting in and then affirm it with you hand on your heart.  Go to a window or stand outside and out loud state your intention and allow the winds of spirit take the energy of your intention out into the wilds of the universe.  Let the universe bless you this 2023.

I (your name) now intend/choose/create/welcome – ______________ – in 2023.
