New Moon Sankalpa Ritual

New Moon Sankalpa Ritual

‘And now let us believe in a long year that is given to us, new, untouched, full of things that have never been….’

Rainer Maria Rilke

Do you feel affected by the changes of the Moon………..

A New Moon occurs when the moon is directly between the Sun and Earth.  The sky darkens, the moon seems to be invisible.  Science shows us that the phases of the moon profoundly affect the the earth – specifically the water element – think of the oceans of our planet and also consider your own changing tides of emotions, mental clarity as well as physical aches and pains.

At the time of the New Moon we might feel quite excited, we may sense possibility in the air and this ritual helps us to clarify and harness this powerfully energetic state.

Traditionally our ancestors recognised that this was a time to go within, of quiet reflection and of listening to our intuition.  Just as a tree requires pruning in order to further its growth and flourish, we require space as an opportunity to release and energetically clear what is not needed so we can step into a new phase of life.

This is a time of pause, of emptying before new growth.

Modern day living has us heightened, stressed and at attention so it takes an even greater effort to create space and quiet for self care so that our ‘tree’ has the opportunity to grow with abundance without feeling withered and weary.  We can do this!

Sankalpa is a Sanskrit word and refers to a heartfelt desire, an intention and when we pair it with resolve by creating a resolution something in us can ignite!

Our practice will be intuitive and will include some of if not all of the following:

Pranayama for calm – breath practices to steer us into a meditative mindset.

Guided Yoga Nidra to reconnect us to all of  the layers of our being.

Meditation and creative visualisation to guide us deep into our heartfelt desire (sankalpa).

Coming to a place of Resolution where we create a firm decision to action our hearts desire.
