Winters Slow Walk 2021

Winters Slow Walk 2021

Today I walked more slowly than usual, quietly, on my own.  Unusual for me – normally moving more quickly, chatting with my walking friends.  Today through was quite nice – I went slowly and for less time without knowing which direction I would head next.

I was as John O’Donouhue describes ‘like a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding.’  I read this to begin our meditation last night, not realising until this mornings walk, the message he had for me today.  Thank you John O’Donohue for your captivating way with words that send energetic impulse directly into my heart.

My Nana always said I was a ‘wattle baby’.  I think of her and her words at this time every year, as my birth date drawers closer.  These words are engraved within my soul – the energy of my Nana is still within me – a seed that, every year, opens to the love of her words.

Recently, a friend passed.  She too, shared deep wisdom in the time that I knew her.  Most profound though was the energy of her, in a room.  Whether she was singing, smiling or sharing space.  Her heart energy is still here.

This winter:

  • throw stuff away that you don’t love anymore!
  • Learn to love a slower pace, enjoy the restorative benefits that this movement provides.
  • Read again – get immersed in something quiet and riveting – whether it’s romance, weaving or spanish! Hola!
  • Make a casserole – good and old fashioned with lots veg to mop up the sauce.
  • Write down anything that is troubling your heart – dissect it with discernment and help yourself through the middle of it.
  • Phone a friend – actually phone them or knock on their door for a visit – just to say ‘Hola’ – giggle when you say it so they soften at this unexpected and lovely surprise.
  • Throw unhelpful rules out for at lease a day.
  • Remember what it feels like to not know and live in that space from time to time.  A space of openness.  Hint: sometimes I ask the Gods/Goddesses for help with this one.
  • Know this one thing though – the sun will shine again, spring will come again – this is the way, laughter will follow and you will know the love and energy around you is the divine spark helping you to remember all the good, all the grace, all the love.
